Summer 2024

Dear Friends:

Earlier this month, The Church Pension Fund Board of Trustees (CPF Board) met for our summer meeting. It was bittersweet as it was my last meeting as a member of the CPF Board after 12 years of service. I am proud of the work we were able to accomplish during my tenure, from revising The Church Pension Fund Clergy Pension Plan and related plans to supporting the Church during an unprecedented global pandemic and advancing the CPF Board’s efforts around diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Eight of my esteemed Board colleagues will also be ending their service upon the adjournment of General Convention. I want to thank Canon Rosalie Simmonds Ballentine, the Rt. Rev. Diane M. Jardine Bruce, the Rt. Rev. Clifton Daniel III, Delbert Glover, the Rt. Rev. Julio Holguín, Ryan Kusumoto, and Solomon Owayda for their dedication, insight, and friendship over these many years.

As I shared in my last Message, Canon Anne Vickers has been elected to serve as CPF Board chair, and at our June meeting, the Rt. Rev. Austin Rios and the Very Rev. Sandye Wilson were elected vice chairs. I wish them well in their new roles, and I know they will serve CPG and the Church well.

In June, the Board received our annual update on CPG’s strategic planning and progress against its organization-wide goals. We had a thoughtful discussion about potential enhancements to the Fund for Medical Assistance and the Fund for Special Assistance and increasing awareness of the two programs. We received an update on CPG’s programs and efforts around DEI, which continue to be very impressive. Airié Stuart, publisher of Church Publishing Inc., also provided an update on that business.

I want to thank you for this opportunity to serve our Church and I appreciate your continued trust in CPG and the CPF Board. It has been an honor and blessing.
